Nick's Smile

We decided that September 19th was Nick's official "he can smile!" day. He smiled at me a few times before that, but this was the first time we could actually elicit it from him, then repeat the experiment and get the same results. I suppose that is how science works, right? So without further ado, please enjoy. The first few are the shots we crazy parents took trying to capture his "first" smiles.

I love his little half smile.

This one is my favorite so far:

Happy Wedding, Shelly!

So my sister got married. She basically did all the planning and preparation herself, and created a perfect day that completely suited her. Her new husband is a sweet guy that we are excited to have as part of our family. It was fun because all of my sisters were in town for the two weeks before the wedding, so we all got to play together and get ready for the big day. Of course, it did have the downside of Shelly being insanely busy and not able to do as much stuff with us, but it was still a good time.

At the temple, Nikenzie and her friends watched all the cute little kids who were decked out in these adorable skirts or cute red-checkered bow ties. We did a picture later with all the kids between both families, which was just the kids from our family. The Burbidge side had zero. Good thing we were there to amp up the cute factor!

When we were all waiting, my grandpa Faber disappeared. He told my grandma that he was going to get something out of the car, but then walked in a different direction from where the car was. We had men wandering all over the parking lot looking for him. Luckily, he was found. But I don't have a picture of him. But I do have one of grandma! Other than that, the wait for the bride and groom to come out was uneventful.

Then came the happy couple! Aren't they good-looking?

Then to the luncheon. It was very nice. this is where I got to do most of my helping out, since I was 9 months pregnant and couldn't really help with the reception stuff much. I was glad to be able to contribute!

The families and some friends helped set up the reception. It was a carnival theme and turned out perfectly. Complete with a live band and photo booth. Can't ask for much more. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the fun stuff like said band, or the corn dog truck, cotton candy, snow cones, brownie balls, and popcorn. It would have just made you jealous anyway. But there is a picture of Lila'a balloon hat.

Congrats to my beautiful sister Shelly. I am so happy for you and proud of the great choice you made to marry Matt. Love you!

A Little Man in a White Suit

We blessed Baby Nick when he was just about four weeks old. We didn't want a lot of hoopla, so we basically just invited our immediate families. We didn't have any special get-together afterwards or anything. Just the simplicity of a few of our loved ones sharing in a special moment. If these blessings are any indicator, our boy will be physically healthy and a scholar of the gospel. A mother can only hope and pray for those blessings in the lives of their kids. We didn't really get a lot of pictures with other people, but I tried to take a few of just him. I'm no photographer, so it's a good thing my subject was cute to make up for it.

Me: I love you Lila.
Lila: I love you too mommy.

Lila: hey! Why do I don't call you Megan?

Nick is 1 Month Old

Happy monthday Nick! We are so amazed at how much you have blessed our lives already. Mostly because we love you no matter what, and partly because you have been such a good baby so far. Your mild temperament has really helped Mommy get back into the swing of things quicker than she anticipated! You still look a lot like Lila, but you also really look like a boy. Which is impressive since most babies look gender neutral. Your Aunt Anna simply calls you "Boy Lila."

You still eat pretty much every three hours, but some nights you will sleep for 5 hours at a time. Too bad when you do that you usually fall asleep earlier than mommy so she still hasn't really gotten more than 3 hours of sleep in one instance. But it's still nice to get a bit of a longer break. Your big sister loves you so much but is also jealous of the attention you get. She wants to be close to you but isn't very good at being soft. Her favorite thing to do is give you a big hug and squeeze. Since you are often wrapped up she tends to go for your face and we worry about you not breathing or getting your nose broken. She will learn.

You take a binky but are often content without it. Usually you need it the most if you are awake close to feeding time. You are starting to be a little more picky about wanting to be held when you are awake or falling asleep. Most of the time you are good about sleeping in your cradle at night. Rarely you have had to cry yourself to sleep, and a few times mommy had to keep you in bed to keep you calm. You really like the warm water of a bath, but since mommy and daddy don't immerse you yet you get fussy in between having the warm water poured on you. Sometimes I think you will fall asleep under the water! You seem to be growing very fast. Don't know how much you weigh now but you were at 8 lbs 2 oz at your two week appointment. You can still fit into your newborn clothes. You wear size 1 diapers.

Everyone who holds you comments about what a good baby you are. We sure have enjoyed having you around! We love you!
